Our story

Fire is the oldest kitchen tool.

Chef Nora Vance opened The Ember House in 2019 with one rule: everything cooks over live embers. No gas, no induction, no shortcuts. Just oak, cherry, and time.

  • Whole-animal butchery — nothing goes to waste
  • Produce sourced within 200 miles of Chicago
  • House-milled flour, house-cultured butter, house-fermented everything
  • A 40-seat dining room built for lingering
